a)     It is based on "open source" software,which is maintained by the professional community that exists online; that is, it makes the most of the advantages of being fed by modules or components – known as portlets- that already exist online and, in turn, it has assured the support of companies that guarantee its maintenance and that comply with the defined standards.

One immediate consequence of this is the possibility of incorporating or integrating modules or components that do not have to be developed from scratch or "in house".
